Did you know that the average child spends about 7 hours and 38 minutes on all media combined, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation? http://www.kff.org/entmedia/index.cfm
Excessive, right? But not shocking. Technology is everywhere, be it the television, computer, iPad, iPod, iPhone, you get the iDea (haha). It's hard to unplug! And as parents, when we're busy running around just trying to keep up with the tasks of everyday life, it can be too easy to not be as on top of things as we would really like. Not to mention, many of us parents are just as plugged in!
What can we do? Being sedentary and bogged down by television and technology clearly isn't the healthiest thing for us. It IS hard to unplug. Can we find a moment here and there, to slow down, to be mindful of what we are doing, to perhaps connect with our friends and family without any devices beeping, buzzing, alerting us to the next email? I think we can. In fact, I know we can! Set aside one evening a week to play board games with your kids. Start with just half an hour, even. Invite some friends or family over for dinner. Get outside. Get involved in healthy activities to get those bodies moving!
What are some things that you and your family do to have time together where you connect with each other, without any technology?
